Welcome to the full version of the application SafeAnaesthesia.Vet!
This is a practical tool for implementing a ‘safety culture’ in veterinary anaesthesia.
"Safety Culture" is an approach that incorporates human factors, including the fact that to error is human. Its aim is not to eliminate all errors, but to put in place a system that prevents certain errors and detects any errors in good time, thereby eliminating or limiting their consequences.
The design of this application is inspired by what has been done for over 70 years in aviation, where the effectiveness of Safety Culture is well established.
First of all, this application guides you to ensure that you meet the prerequisites recommended by the AVA (Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists). These prerequisites enable you to deal with potentially life-threatening situations that may arise during induction and/or anaesthesia. You can access the document here.
You also benefit from:
- all anaesthetic procedures;
- 4 checklists to ensure safety during the 4 main stages of anaesthesia: before premedication, before induction, before surgery, before waking up;
- and emergency procedures to manage complications that may arise during anaesthesia;
This application provides you with a practical tool for implementing a "Safety Culture" wherever you perform anaesthesia, similar to that used by pilots in the cockpit of their aircraft and anaesthetists in human medicine with the WHO surgical checklist and the Anaesthesia Crisis and the Anaesthesia Crisis Manual, among others.
